Pakistan, Indonesia agree to strengthen defense cooperation

(MENAFN) Senior defense officials from Pakistan and Indonesia held discussions this week focused on regional and international security matters, reaching a consensus on broadening bilateral defense collaboration, according to official statements.

Indonesia’s defense chief, Lt. Gen. Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, met with Pakistan’s top military leadership during his visit, holding talks with the country’s chief of defense forces and army chief, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, as well as air force head Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, as stated by authorities.

In conversations with Munir, both sides emphasized the importance of reinforcing formal defense frameworks, expanding joint training initiatives, and enhancing cooperation in defense manufacturing and industry.

Sjamsoeddin indicated that Jakarta is looking to widen military engagement with Islamabad across a range of sectors, while Munir reiterated Pakistan’s support for a durable partnership grounded in shared principles and aligned strategic goals, according to official briefings.

During a separate engagement, Sidhu outlined ongoing modernization efforts within the Pakistan Air Force, highlighting upgrades to infrastructure, revamped training systems, and the introduction of new operational capabilities designed to support multi-domain missions.

The two sides also reaffirmed their long-standing and close relations, agreeing to intensify air force collaboration, particularly in areas such as skills development, professional training, and technological cooperation.

The Indonesian defense minister commended the Pakistan Air Force for its operational standards and preparedness, while expressing interest in strengthening joint efforts in training, aviation, and aerospace-related fields.
