Indonesia, Pakistan Seek to Boost Defense Cooperation

(MENAFN) Pakistan and Indonesia have agreed to deepen defense collaboration following high-level meetings between their top military officials, according to official statements released Monday.

Visiting Indonesian Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin held talks in Rawalpindi and Islamabad with Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, as well as Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, the Pakistani military said.

During discussions with Munir, both sides underscored the importance of expanding institutional ties, enhancing training cooperation and advancing defense industry partnerships.

“Indonesia was seeking to expand defense ties with Pakistan across multiple areas,” Sjamsoeddin said. Munir, in turn, reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to a long-term partnership anchored in shared values and converging strategic interests, the military added.

In a separate session, Sidhu briefed the Indonesian delegation on the Pakistan Air Force’s modernization drive, highlighting infrastructure upgrades, revamped training programs and the integration of new capabilities designed to support multi-domain operations.

Both delegations emphasized what they described as historic and brotherly relations, pledging to strengthen air force cooperation in capacity building, training and technological collaboration.

The Indonesian minister praised the PAF’s professionalism and combat readiness, while expressing interest in expanding cooperation in training, aviation and aerospace sectors.
