Qatar Intercepts Iranian Aircraft, Missiles Amid Regional Tension
In a statement issued by the Defense Ministry, officials confirmed that “The Qatar Emiri Air Force successfully shot down two (SU-24) aircraft coming from the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Authorities further reported that air defense units intercepted seven ballistic missiles aimed at Qatari territory. In addition, joint efforts by the Qatar Emiri Air Force and the Qatar Emiri Navy Forces led to the interception of five drones targeting various locations across the country.
“The threat was addressed immediately upon detection in accordance with the operational plan,” the statement said, emphasizing that all incoming missiles were destroyed before reaching their intended destinations.
The ministry stressed that the country’s armed forces maintain “full capabilities and resources to safeguard the state’s sovereignty and lands, and to respond firmly to any external threat.”
Officials also urged the public — including citizens, residents, and visitors — to remain composed, adhere strictly to guidance from security authorities, disregard unverified information, and rely solely on official updates.
These developments unfolded after the United States and Israel initiated a broad military offensive against Iran on Saturday, reportedly resulting in the deaths of several senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran subsequently launched retaliatory missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and Gulf nations hosting American military assets.
