Afghan Defense Minister Emphasizes Dialogue Over Conflict with Pakistan
Defense Minister Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid stated in remarks to local media on Saturday that Kabul has no intention of deepening hostilities with its neighbor and instead favors negotiations as the primary path toward resolving disputes.
He explained that Afghan authorities believe the recent clashes were not initiated by their side.
According to his account, Afghanistan has only reacted after facing cross-border incursions and has been forced to respond in defense.
"Our message to the mediating countries is that we do not seek war and that we believe in negotiations," the minister said.
Officials have also indicated that they are open to mediation efforts from other countries to help calm the situation and encourage dialogue between the two sides.
In recent weeks, military friction between Afghanistan and Pakistan has intensified, with each government blaming the other for triggering the violence along their shared border, according to reports.
