Pakistan Thanks Trump for Extending Iran Truce after Mediation Request
According to reports, Sharif said the extension would give space for ongoing diplomatic efforts and thanked both Trump and Pakistan’s military leadership for supporting the initiative.
"On my personal behalf and on behalf of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, I sincerely thank President Trump for graciously accepting our request to extend the ceasefire to allow ongoing diplomatic efforts to take their course," Sharif said on the US social media company X’s platform.
His statement followed Trump’s announcement that Washington would prolong the ceasefire to allow Iran time to prepare what he called a “unified proposal,” after mediation efforts involving Pakistani officials.
Sharif added that Pakistan would continue supporting negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict through dialogue rather than escalation.
"I sincerely hope that both sides will continue to observe the ceasefire and be able to conclude a comprehensive ‘Peace Deal’ during the second round of talks scheduled at Islamabad for a permanent end to the conflict," he added.
The upcoming talks in Islamabad are expected to build on earlier diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and preventing further escalation in the region.
